Our Products: Ideas for What You Will Create
Let's start sharing ideas for what we want to create. Let us use this for tossing out ideas and helping each other formulate a good idea. I will want to make a list of who is doing what. Feel free to work alone or in teams -- both blue and green teams. Use the comments for putting forth your ideas.

I like doing visual projects. I think I would like to do something like a postor or a reenactment of a certain part of the book with clay models. If you have any suggestions let me know.
Since we live in the boating capital of the world, many people have probably heard something about this srory from one of their older relatives. Because of this I think we should post an ad in the newspaper asking people what they know, or walk aroun and just ask people.
For my project, I think that I would like to do a visual aid.
I think that for my project, I would like to make a visual aid depicting the crew's journey. First, I would create a map similar to the one on pgs.26-27 showing the route of the whaleship Essex and whaleboats, with the major occurances/disasters pinpointed on it. Next I would create miniature models of the ship and three boats with the crew in them with "handles" attatched to each to make them moveable. Then I would cut a slit along the route and put the models in the slit (which would act as a sort of track). After, I would put the map and figures on a sturdy box (with the handles coming out of it) to give the visual more stability. Lastly, I would make a list of the characters in each whaleboat to clear up the confusion concerning the many different names in the story.
I Think for my project I might do a model of the Essex. Out of what, I don't know, but I'm DEFINETLY open to any suggestions. Im thinking lego's for an elementary school. Or I could do a picture book of the essex's crew and history. I think that would be fun and entertaining.
I think that I am going to do a picture, ABC, or coloring book. I know me Paige, Julia and Casey were going to work together so I think we could make a really good project.
For my project, I am thinking about doing a picture book for grades 1-3. My book would be about the main plot of the story and would have some basic words and pictures. I am also thinking about maybe making a model of a scene from the book.
I like doing things that are visual. For my project, I would like to do a 1st garde or 2nd grade story picture book. The book will have many pictures and there will be captions describing the picture and what they had to go through to saty alive. These are some ideas I have so far. Or, I would like to so something like Charlotte's.
I think I'd like to do a picture book for younger kids...Rebecca and Julia, that sound OK? Or maybe we could do a visual thing...open to suggestions!!
i'm pretty much up for anything... maybe a model or something if targetting older audiences? but for younger people i would do more of a picture book... or something like that
For the project, I think I am going to make a model of the three small boats. The people would be in the boats, and they would have the tools that they had in the book. I would try to make the boats as accurate as possible, but I am not sure what to make the boats out of. If anyone has any suggestions about matrials to make the boats out of, that would be helpful. I think this will be a fun project.
Susaun and I are going to do a big contribution to the wiki about starvation. We would do a lot of research and make a few pages that maybe had some side links. If you have any ideas or suggestions about specific topics to research, or side liks that could be on one of the pages, please, let either one of us know.
I was thinking of either making a scale model of the Essex vs. the whale, or maybe a poster comparing the two (size-wise).
for the project myself, julia, caroline, and paige are going to do picture book. Together I think we could do a good job. Then hopefully we could get it to one of the elementary schools for them to read.
I do like the idea of a picture book very much... perhaps write a compiled summary of a few chapters and pick a passage in the book to draw for each summary? Something like that, I think, would catch my eye... not sure what audiance this would appeal to though...
